Golden M
The coolest AD ever.
Thirty years later, the Golden M is still making headlines, would you ever have said that? What is Golden M?
We are sure you all already know! This is the Golden M:
The most iconic haircut from 90s! Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and many other stars of that period had it. Those of us who were youngsters in those years probably for some time styled their hair just like that: in the shape of a golden M. Does the golden M remind you of anything?
Let us give you a little help:
That’s right: the gold M is also the initial of the name of the most famous fast food chain in the world: McDonald’s.
Coincidences?
No!
The idea of the Golden M was born right in the McDonald’s house, where it was decided to make the most influential stars of the time wear the cut, precisely to convey the commercial message!
Just think that McDonald’s Sweden, to celebrate the most bizarre subliminal message in history, has even opened a Temporary Barber Shop: the M Barber Shop!
“When we realized that people were wearing our golden bows, we had to act. We started our M Barber Shop not only to keep our gold M, but also to claim it once and for all. The show is therefore a celebration dedicated to our beloved ambassadors, “said Staffan Ekstam, marketing director of McDonald’s Sweden.
In short: the coolest haircut of the 90s is a commercial message, and all those who wore it, knowingly or not, were McDonald’s ambassadors!
Curious, isn’t it?
During the pandemic, the Golden M has returned to be talked about precisely because it is a simple cut to maintain independently.
Think that in the M Barber Shop, open on 5 and 6 December 2020, you could make virtual appointments with Adam Lukacs -influencer and hairstylist-, who provided all the information necessary to get a perfect Golden M at home!
Here in Barber Mind we hope that barbers can always do their job, also to save us from the Golden M wave: it would be really terrible if the world were invaded by M-shaped fringes again!
We leave you with a short video, just to remind you how much the golden M could be dangerous!
